Unvented Cylinders
Unvented Cylinder Conversion — Farnborough
Converting from a traditional vented hot water system to a modern unvented cylinder for improved hot water pressure and performance.
About the Project
A homeowner in Farnborough had been living with a traditional vented hot water system — relying on a cold water tank in the loft to supply pressure to the hot water circuit. The result was inconsistent pressure, particularly upstairs, and an occupied loft space that could otherwise be used for storage.
The Challenge
Converting from a vented to an unvented hot water system is a specialist task. It requires a qualified engineer holding the Building Regulation G3 qualification — the specific certification required to install and commission unvented cylinders. Trevara holds this qualification for both vented and unvented systems.
Our Solution
Troy surveyed the existing system, specified the appropriate unvented cylinder, and managed the full installation:
- Removal of existing vented cylinder and associated cold water tank
- Supply and installation of new unvented hot water cylinder
- All associated pipework, valves, and safety devices
- G3 commissioning and documentation
- Building Regulations notification as required
The Result
The homeowner gained a significant improvement in hot water pressure throughout the property — particularly to the upstairs bathroom. The removal of the cold water tank freed up valuable loft space, and the faster heat-up times from the new cylinder improved the overall hot water experience. All work was carried out with full G3 documentation.
